Color Throwdown #377

http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2016/01/throwdown-countdown-377.html
Color scheme:  Kraft--Grey--Yellow

I have stumbled upon a challenge through Prairie Paper and Ink that looks like a lot of fun! The card I'm entering is below.  At first, the color combinations didn't appeal to me. However, after working with them for a while, I totally love the look.

I'm thinking I'll mail this card to a dear friend of mine.  We've been friends since junior high school. Because she lives in Colorado, we don't see much of each other, and our typical correspondence is usually a Christmas card. This should be a nice surprise!!

Supplies:
  • Maya Road Butterfly DIY Kraft Stickers
  • BoBunny Double Dot Jewels Citrus
  • Papertrey Ink Friends die
  • Forever sticker from My Mind's Eye My Story
  • Various papers from my stash

Valentine's Day Cards

Valentine's Day Cards -- 2016
One of the first cards I remember making...and making well...were cards for Valentine's Day.  My Daddy always made up goofy verses using "Roses are Red, Cupcakes are Blue..." and so on.  Usually his verses had us all laughing so hard our sides ached.  I suppose that is why I can buy Christmas Cards or Birthday Cards and not feel guilty.  But no matter how busy I am at school, I find time to make handmade cards for Valentine's Day.

This year I'm ahead of the game!  I even have a stash of Birthday cards made up.  Things are about to heat up at school since we are closing in on testing season.  However, I'm feeling good about getting my crafting mojo back--especially since these cards were made using my odd-and-ends scraps.

Supplies:
Cricut Gypsy Wanderings:  Hearts & Coffee Mugs
Papers--from my never-ending stash.  I dug through my odds-and-ends to piece these cards together.
BoBunny "Stitches" stamp set
Various Paper Trey Ink stamps

Mojo Monday 432

Mojo Monday 432

As I attempt to recapture my Mojo as it were, I'm going to combine a challenge with a purpose.  Jennifer McGuire has started another card drive for mothers and fathers who have recently lost a child due to miscarriage.  You can click the link for more information about the Lasting Hearts Card Drive.  I needed a bit of inspiration in order to create a card to send to the drive, and Mojo Monday has rescued me!  I will send the card below for the card drive and will also enter it into this week's Mojo Challenge.

"Thinking of You" for Lasting Hearts Card Drive
My New Year's Resolution is to scrap as much of my stash as possible.  I was in luck with this design as I already had the swirl background in my stash. I don't know why I didn't care for it when I created it, but I like it now!  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the background and used some Distress Ink to bring out the pattern.  Since I did that a long time ago, I don't know which inks I used.

I used some ribbon from my stash and "Thinking of You" stamp from Stampin' Up.  I've had that sentiment stamp, along with about four other sentiments for over 10 years now, and I still go to those first over just about anything else I have.

Thanks for stopping by...and let me know your thoughts!  Happy crafting!

Birthday Banner for Big Boys

Cheers & Beers Banner for 30th Birthday Party

Please excuse my messy kitchen rack :-\  What I want to showcase today is a banner my sweet daughter-in-law requested for my son's 30th Birthday bash. She requested glittery paper, and because my son is 'over-the-hill,' black will be a major part of the color theme.

Recollections supplies from Michael's

I was lucky to find pre-made banners and a nice light-weight paper for the glittered letters.  This greatly reduced my cost and time investment.  One thing I'm finding out since taking a little sabbatical is that I'm much faster at designing and making paper crafting happen!

Experimenting with glue and paint for crackle effect.

I remembered that I had some Ranger crackle paint, but I knew that the little jars would not be enough for this project.  So I searched You Tube for the process of using glue as a medium for crackling paint.

The result--success!

Success!  It crackled.  I was tempted to go back over the cracks with another color, but my husband said he wanted the kitchen table back, so I left it alone.....

Completed panel w/glitter letter.

Above is one completed banner with glittery letter!  My daughter-in-law is pleased.  All that is left is to complete the decoration across the top....which I will wisely leave to her :-)

Papertrey January Blog Hop Challenge

January inspiration

I'm excited about participating in Papertrey Ink's Blog Hop Challenge.  It's always fun to stretch the imagination using solid design as inspiration. This month the challenge is to follow inspiration from the collage artist Rex Ray using PTI stamps/products.  My card below features Sketched Shapes Stamps and Die set.  I also used PTI Pallet Hybrid Ink--Burnt Sienna and Premium Dye Ink--Simply Chartreuse.  Comments are appreciated!!

New Year's Resolution!

A flashback to a visit with my father in an Alzheimer's care facility
I don't like starting out a post with 'It's been a while...." But the truth is it feels like it's been a decade since I've done any scrap pages or card making or blogging. This year's resolution is to accomplish scrapping for myself and others and to find a balance.

I like to scrap chronologically, so when I get behind I feel like I've failed somehow. My goal is to complete the year 2012 and start 2013 by the end of February. I also will be challenging myself to improve my photography skills. I am fairly decent at shooting flowers and such. But when it comes to shooting layouts and cards...not so much.
Organizing with Avery Elle
Oh yes...there are other scrapping resolutions, too! I'm challenging myself to scrap my stash and to organize my stamps so I use my investment. This is a photo showing my stamp and die reorganization. Thanks to Jennifer McGuire's organization videos, I'm well on my way to using my collection efficiently.

Later today, I'm hoping to complete a couple of projects. We'll see if my photo quality improves!
